Leading Innovation Organizations, Open Innovation and Contests
Open innovation sounds great in theory, but what does it take to make it work in practice?
Join fellow IRI members each month for a roundtable discussion on open and co-innovation. This is an opportunity to benchmark and discuss shared challenges. Don’t worry if you feel you don’t have anything to contribute right now; eventually you will! Here is a rundown of what we will cover this quarter:
This is a space to benchmark with peers, troubleshoot real challenges, and explore how others are turning open innovation from a buzzword into a value-generating process.
- Q&A: What are your current challenges? What can your peers help you with?
- Different topic each month:
- January 21: How should you structure open innovation—centralized, decentralized, or something in between? What organizational models best connect R&D teams with external partners and ideas?
- February 18: What are the key IP challenges that arise in partnerships? What mechanisms have you created to avoid these as well as unexpected challenges? We will discuss the insights from this article: The Challenge of Closing Open Innovation: The Intellectual Property Disassembly Problem.
- March 18: How do you choose the right partner for an open innovation initiative when each option offers different strengths and risks? Together, we’ll tackle this question in a collaborative group problem-solving exercise designed to generate actionable solutions.
- Helping hands: Tech needs and leads
Whether you’re scaling an existing program or just starting to build one, you’ll leave with new insights and tested ideas from across the IRI network.
