Iria Giuffrida is a Professor of the Practice of Law at William & Mary Law School and the Deputy Director of the Center for Legal & Court Technology (CLCT). She also serves as Visiting Faculty for Business Law at the Raymond A. Mason School of Business.

Professor Giuffrida leads a grant-funded research project on legal issues related to artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and emerging technologies. She heads CLCT’s research efforts and is involved with the Commonwealth Cyber Initiative. Since spring 2018, she has taught the Law School’s innovative artificial intelligence course and co-teaches an interdisciplinary seminar on cyber and information security with faculty from the Mason School of Business and the Department of Computer Science. Her other courses include International Commercial Arbitration, International Business Transactions, Mediation, Legal Environment of Business, and Business Law.

Previously, Professor Giuffrida was a commercial litigator with Dechert LLP in London and Brussels, and Enyo Law LLP in London. She has extensive experience in alternative dispute resolution, having participated in ICC and LCIA arbitrations and mediations involving competition law, international joint ventures, energy disputes, and construction law. She has advised on complex, multijurisdictional financial services disputes, breach of fiduciary duties, and restitution-based claims. She is admitted to practice in New York, is a Solicitor in England and Wales, and has qualified as a Solicitor in the Republic of Ireland.

Professor Giuffrida earned an LL.B. in English and European Law from Queen Mary, University of London, an LL.M. as the 2001 Drapers’ Scholar at William & Mary Law School, and a Ph.D. in Law from Queen Mary, University of London.
