As organizations navigate increasingly volatile and uncertain conditions, many are turning to digital technologies to become more agile, competitive, and resilient. Yet technology alone is not enough. Success depends on aligning strategy, capabilities, and organizational priorities throughout the digitalization journey.

The session will feature a case study of Linn Products Ltd., a UK-based family business and mature mid-sized company that designs and manufactures high-end home entertainment systems.

Linn Products Ltd. has navigated major digitalization shifts in a highly dynamic market since its founding in 1973. These shifts include moving from mechanical to electronics engineering, from turntables to compact discs, and from CDs to digital streaming. The authors will share practical guidance on how other organizations can apply these insights in their own contexts, particularly when building threshold capabilities and aligning strategy with technological change.

Participants will then move into small groups to discuss the case study and explore practical approaches for aligning strategy, capabilities, and technological change within their own organizations. After the breakout discussions, everyone will reconvene for a facilitated conversation to share insights, compare perspectives, and identify actionable takeaways.

Session format:

This session will feature a presentation and insights by:

  • Professor Aylin Ates, Associate Professor of Strategy and Innovation at the University of Strathclyde Business School, Glasgow, UK.
  • Gilad Tifenbrun, CEO, Linn Products

This 75-minute interactive professional development session is designed to prompt conversations among R&D, innovation, and technology management practitioners on how exemplary cases of innovation can help them address innovation challenges in their own organizations.
