The structure of medicine and the practice of surgery are changing based on governmental policies and emerging new technologies. This session focuses on the growing application of robotic assistive devices in surgery. Currently, there are a small number of robotic devices approved for use in human surgeries; most notable is the da Vinci by Intuitive Surgical Inc. This device has been incredibly successful in very specific niches of surgery and its success has driven many companies, including Google, to launch R&D initiatives to create robotic devices which can be used on humans, with the hope of achieving a level of success similar to that of the da Vinci robot.
Explore the opportunities and future impact of these devices on the healthcare system.
